Propyl- and t-butyl-beryllium complexes

Abstract
Ether-free beryllium dialkyls, R2Be (R = Et, Prn, Bun, Bui), can be obtained by prolonged boiling of the ether complexes under reflux at low pressure. All the above ether-free dialkyls are dimeric in benzene solution. The temperature-dependence of the 1H n.m.r. Spectra of some of them is described. The halides ButBeX, OEt2(X = Cl, Br) are dimeric in benzene, and the chloride is monomeric in diethyl ether. 1 : 1 Complexes between di-t-butylberyllium and MMe3(M = N, P) are described. The 1H n.m.r. spectrum of the 1 : 1 complex of tetramethylethylenediamine with Pri 2 Be does not change with temperature, in contrast to that of the But 2Be complex. The complexes ButBeOC2H4NMe2, PrnBeNMeC2H4NMe2, PriBeNMeC2H4NMe2, and ButBeSC2H4NMe2 are dimeric in benzene solution, as is MeZnSC2H4NMe2.
