Abstract
Presentation of CaseA 31-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of fever and a pelvic mass.He was in excellent health until three months earlier, when malaise and a low-grade fever developed, followed by anorexia and intermittent diarrhea. Physical examination was negative except that the temperature was 37.8°C. A stool culture yielded Campylobacter jejuni. A course of erythromycin was administered. The diarrhea disappeared, but intermittent fever continued, with peaks of the temperature between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m., ranging to 38.9°C and once as high as 39.8°C Occasional sweats and sensations of chilliness occurred.
