Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone: Neuroregulation and Clinical Applications: PART 2

Abstract
The regulation of thyrotropin (TSH) synthesis and secretion, with emphasis on the role of catecholamines and serotonin, the role of somatostatin, influences of circadian variation, cold stress and calorie restriction; and the role of prostaglandins are discussed in this review. Mice and rats were used. Clinical applications were discussed for use of basal TSH levels, TSH levels after thyrotropin-releasing hormone stimulation and TSH levels after dopamine antagonism, in relation to hyperthyroidism and chronic renal failure. Therapeutic applications of TSH were also presented.
