Abstract
The purpose of this article is to determine what an Aristotelian enthymeme is, and to describe the enthymeme so that we will not only be able to recognize one when we see it, but also so that we will be better able to use the concept as a tool for analyzing argumentative discourse. The analysis reveals five major distinguishing characteristics of enthymemes. Keywords
