Abstract
The wave numbers and relative intensities of 500 of the absorption bands of benzene vapor in the 2600A region have been determined. A detailed study has been made of the variation of intensity with temperature of the main band of the A, B, and D progressions. These three bands have been assigned to the ground state, the 606-cm—1 and 2×606-cm—1 vibrational states, respectively, by Sponer and collaborators. The experimental data are in good agreement with a statistical calculation of the population factors for these states. Keywords
