Situations vacant: US nursing opportunities.

Abstract
Redundancies in the 1990s have left a burgeoning nurse shortage in the United States. As Robert O’Connor reports, hospitals are now offering attractive deals to prospective recruits AS THE NHS looks abroad to recruit nurses, the United States is becoming increasingly aware of its own acute needs. Many of the 2.2 million registered nurses working in the US are approaching retirement age. Young women, who still make up 95 per cent of all entrants, are choosing less demanding and more lucrative careers.
