Formation of tetramethyltin from trimethyltin precursors in sediment environments

Abstract
Incubation of (CD3) SnCl in estuarine and freshwater sediments demonstrates that the conversion to (CD3)4 Sn is almost entirely a chemical process (to an extent ≥ 95% of the total conversion.) The implications of this for the environmental methylation of methyltin compounds is that a biological process does not occur.
