Comparison of hyoscine‐N‐butyl bromide and atropine sulfate in man

Abstract
The effects of hyoscine‐N‐butyl bromide (20 mg. subcutaneously) and of atropine sulfate (0.6 mg. subcutaneously) were compared in a controlled, double‐blind study in man. Both drugs caused statistically significant increases in heart rate and decreases in salivation, but the extents and the time courses of the changes were difJerent for the two drugs. Changes in pupil diameter, near point of vision, and sweat gland activity were not statistically significant. The experiments were made by medical students as part of their training in pharmacology.
