Abstract
During 25 yr, 34 patients who had jejunal or ileal pseudodiverticula were identified. Seventeen of these were treated for a more significant pathologic condition, the diverticula being an incidental finding. Of the remaining 17 patients, 6 underwent an operation for complications of these diverticula; 2 of them had diverticulitis of the jejunum; 2, a perforated ileal diverticulum; and 2 others, severe malabsorption. Another 2 patients had laboratory evidence of malabsorption attributed to the presence of the diverticula and were treated medically. In the remaining 9 persons, 4 were diagnosed as having a functional bowel syndrome and 5 had undiagnosed abdominal pain. For the group of 6 patients undergoing an operation, there was a 50% mortality. Evidently, although jejunal and ileal diverticula are rare, in any collected experience with them, significant morbidity and mortality accompanies the complications. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
