Posttraumatic Sensorineural Hearing Loss

Abstract
Patients (77) with verified longitudinal fractures of the temporal bone were reexamined 12-20 yr, average 15 yr, after the trauma to assess a possible progression of the primary sensorineural hearing impairment. Such a progression could not be demonstrated. After 15 yr, 38% of the patients had sensorineural hearing impairment and 41% had tinnitus. A slight high-frequency hearing loss was found in 24%, in 10% the high-frequency hearing loss was moderate to severe, and in 4% the hearing loss involved all frequencies.
