Abstract
The formation of kinks in a system with commensurability three is studied in a continuum approximation. The width, the amplitude modulation, the spectrum, and the formation energy of the kinks is approximately calculated within the mean‐field approximation. With increasing ratio of bandwidth to gapwidth, the kinks become broader and less amplitude modulated. The number of localized states in the gap increases, and the energy of formation decreases. Keywords
