Abstract
Separate the pigments from the toxic culture filtrate by ultrafiltration through a Parlodion 9% membrane, extract with acetic acid ether, concentrate by evaporation, and wash on a thin wedge of alumina. Washing this with anhydrous ether, methyl alcohol, distilled water, and [image]/15 borate buffer, pH 9.2, produces various fluorescing zones; brown, yellow, blue, green and red. The yellow fluorescing material has an ultraviolet absorption curve with bands at [lambda] 4635 and 5319 A similar to that for xanthopterin, as is also its crystalline structure. Keywords
