CYTOGENETIC STUDIES ON BONE MARROW FIBROBLASTS FROM A MALE-FEMALE HEMATOPOIETIC CHIMERA

Abstract
A patient with aplastic anemia who was a successful bone marrow transplant recipient demonstrating male-female hematopoietic chimerism offered a unique opportunity to determine whether stromal progenitors are transplanted along with hematopoietic stem cells during bone marrow transplantation from a HLA-matched sibling. In this particular situation, the donor was a female and the recipient a male, thus providing genetic means for determining the source of specific cell populations.
