Abstract
The Fort Leavenworth Military Reservation, situated in n.-e. Kansas adjacent to the Missouri R. contains nearly 6000 acres, of which over 4000 acres were available for this study. The area lies within the Kaw Valley Biotic district, characterized by a sub-humid, mesothermal climate; soils are derived from glacial till and from loess. Plant associations include prairie, Symphoricarpos-sumac, sedge-willow, cotton-wood-elm, oak-hickory and littoral associations. The predominant plant spp. in each of these associations are listed, and an annotated list of amphibians (11 spp.), reptiles (36 spp.), mammals (47 spp.), and birds (165 spp.) is included. Animals are not listed according to their relations to plant associations, but in most cases notes refer each animal to one or more of these associations.
