Abstract
Thyroid carcinoma was discovered in five of 56 (8.9%) patients operated upon for hyperparathyroidism. In only one instance was a mass palpated preoperatively. An additional 26% of the 56 patients had either multinodular goiter or follicular adenomas. It is thus important to biopsy the thyroid nodules which may represent malignancy. Keywords
