Abstract
The embryonic development of Phanerodon furcatus was found to be very similar to that of other members of the Embiotocidae; the smallest embryo (16.2 mm) had developed scales on the body and pigments in the eye. The embryos at birth measure approximately 43.5 mm. The average number of embryos for all females during the study was 19.6, and the embryos varied from 8 in a female measuring 196 mm to 33 in one measuring 262 mm in fork length. The number of embryos generally increases with an increase in size of the female parent. The breeding season of white seaperch, Phanerodon furcatus, in Tomales Bay, California, starts from the early part of May and extends to the middle of August. Keywords
