Abstract
Thin targets containing separated 10B have been bombarded by deuterons of energies 0·59, 0·78 and 1·07 mev, and the emitted alpha particles observed using a differential ionization chamber. Transitions proceeding via the ground state and first excited state of 8Be have been identified. On the basis of the dispersion theory of Wigner and Eisenbud, the shape of the alpha particle spectrum is used to indicate properties of the first excited state of 8Be.Keywords
