SOME ACTIONS OF INDOLE ON THE DOG

Abstract
In dogs anesthetized with nembutal, indole injected intraven. in doses of 25 mg./kg produces: A short period of apnoea followed by an increase in respiration. An immediate fall of systemic blood pressure. Usually a rise in the intestinal tone followed by a fall. Increase of mucous and salivary secretions. Chronic convulsive movements (which with larger doses become generalized). The effects arc not abolished by atropine. Death which occurs with large doses of indole is usually due to dilatation and arrest of the heart action.
