Abstract
The manifestations of dissociative multiionization in two‐dimensional time‐of‐flight mass spectra are described and are illustrated by results on ICN and SF6. Concerted reactions and two sequential mechanisms can be distinguished on the basis of vector correlations between initial momenta, which determine the peak shapes. Slower sequential reactions produce metastable signatures that give information on ion lifetimes, complementing deductions from the peak shapes. Developments which will enhance this technique for study of reaction dynamics are discussed. Keywords
