Abstract
When 15-30 units of insulin were given daily to normal [male][male] maintained on controlled diets containing 160-230 gs. of carbohydrate daily, the oxidative response to glucose ingestion on the following day was delayed and the attendant hyperglycemia prolonged. The pancreas may be suppressed by the endogenous insulin; the conditions are similar to those of starvation diabetes. At times of maximal insulin effect and during the evening, when protamine insulin is used, it is advisable to supply extra carbohydrate. This publication has 5 references indexed in Scilit:
