Observations on Host Perception in Fleas

Abstract
Preliminary experiments with the flea Ctenophthalmus pseudagyrtes Baker indicate that it is unable to recognize the presence of a host at distances in excess of 2 inches. A chipmunk, Tamias striatus, was the host used. Other experiments with the rabbit flea, Cediopsylla simplex (Baker) demonstrated the ability of this flea to distinguish between a rabbit and an opossum when both were available as potential hosts.
