Abstract
The volume change on freezing of AI2O3 was determined by rapidly cooling a molten droplet and measuring the inner porosity of the solidified bead. With the experimental arrangement used, the inner porosity of the droplet corresponds directly to the shrinkage on freezing. The values of 19.9 and 20.1%, obtained for two initial materials, agree well with previously published data determined by more complicated experimental techniques. Keywords
