INTRACRANIAL ANEURYSMS—A REPORT OF THIRTY-SIX CASES

Abstract
Thirty-six cases with a total of 42 intracranial aneurysms are presented and classified. Illustrations of arteriosclerotic, congenital so called "berry" aneurysms, syphilitic and mycotic aneurysms are included. The age, sex incidence, and site of hemorrhage are noted. The complications and associated pathological findings, and detailed microscopic observations are included in the analysis. It is the changes of arteriosclerosis, and particularly necrosis in the wall, that cause the rupture and hemorrhage. Apparently the aneurysm becomes a site of selective localization for the degenerative arteriosclerotic process, and it is this that gives significance to the existence of aneurysms.
