Abstract
Popular as well as scientific uses of television are discussed, and its role as both a tool of, and an object for communication studies is indicated. A framework is provided by television's dual facility for representation and review, and the implications of these two principles are extended in terms of (e.g.) kinesics, skill, perceptual and information theory. Emphasis is placed upon the practical benefits to be derived from the study of communication within educational television. Keywords
