Abstract
The effect of a ribonucleoprotein fraction from the host bacterium or from yeast on the formation of bacterial virus was studied. Addition of the nucleoprotein fraction does not increase the absorption of the virus to the cell nor decrease the minimum latent period. It does increase the yield of virus per cell: the relative phage titer is 2 to 30 times that of the control in tests on cells in the resting phase. The expts. show similarities between adaptive enzyme formation and bacterial virus formation.
