Abstract
An optical linear polarization map shows that the Chamaeleon infrared nebula is a bipolar reflection nebula illuminated by a central object located at the position of a known IR source. The source is surrounded by an extensive disc of gas and dust and the data indicate that a magnetic field is concentrated in the disc and remains detectable throughout the lobes of the nebula. Keywords
