Abstract
Mucosal sites are continuously exposed to a diverse microflora and occasionally to pathogenic microbes. The antimicrobial host defense is crucial to maintain health and to limit damage done by pathogens. Effectors of specific immunity and innate defenses are abundant along the mucous membranes, but we have a limited understanding of their relative contribution to host defense and of the critical mechanisms involvedKeywords
