SUBCORTICAL PROJECTIONS ON THE SPINAL GREY MATTER OF THE CAT

Abstract
An analysis was made of the course and terminations in the spinal cord of the interstitio-spinal, the tecto-spinal, the rubro-spinal and the vestibulo-spinal fiber systems, and the reticulo-spinal fibers originating in the pons and the medulla in the cat. This was performed by studying the secondary fiber degeneration after stereotactical electro-coagulations in various subcortical areas. The methods used for visualizing the degenerated fibers were HSggqvist''s modified methylblue-eosin staining and the silver impregnation introduced by Nauta and Gygax. A short discussion is given together with a comparison of the results of the experiments with the data of the literature. Three diagrams at different levels of the cord show the course and terminations of the investigated fibersystems.
