CONGENITAL LEFT VENTRICULAR DIVERTICULUM

Abstract
Two cases of congenital left ventricular diverticulum are reported. They are associated with several unusual anomalies including: (1) midline, supraumbilical abdominal wall defect; (2) a defect of the lower sternum; (3) a deficiency of the anterior diaphragm; (4) a defect of the diaphragmatic pericardium; and (5) congenital intracardiac defects.3 Malposition of the heart due to incomplete rotation (dextrocardia) is a constant feature as well. Because the lesion is potentially curable and often fatal, surgical correction when feasible should be instituted. The roentgenologic features are discussed and some of the underlying embryologic abnormalities are considered.
