Abstract
Informal support networks of older people are generally extensive, but their contributions to subjective well-being are not clear. This reflects inadequate conceptualization and operationalization of social support. A conceptual model is suggested for investigating the contributions of informal networks to well-being, and suggestions are offered for operationalizing this model. Keywords
