Abstract
This review article introduces the application of the cholesterol moiety, which has been commonly utilised as a versatile building block in liquid crystals, organic gels and monolayers, to molecular recognition. Effort has especially been made to clarify the characteristics of cholesterol-based assembly systems and the phenomena common to these three systems. Keywords
