Abstract
Between 50 and 500 mg gentamicin base was infused into certain quarters of 29 cows free from mastitis. Mastitis was induced in two quarters of each of six cows by infusion of Escherichia coli endotoxin, and gentamicin was infused 12 and 36 hours afterwards. Milk concentrations of the antibiotic of 2 mu g/ml or more were maintained for 3-4 milkings providing at least 100 mg was infused. After treatment of inflamed quarters, the antibiotic persisted in milk for 8 milkings after 250 mg and 9 milkings after 500 mg.Keywords
