Abstract
[long dash]Of decorticated dogs (2-stage operation), 4 lived long enough after the 2nd operation to permit satisfactory studies (14, 17 and 158 days and 1 yr. respectively). They had several daily periods of sleep, the most constantly occurring period following shortly on feeding. The alternating periods of activity consisted of almost incessant walking in circles. The authors conclude that diurnal sleep in dogs depends upon the presence of the cerebral cortex for its establishment and persistence. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
