Abstract
In the scattering of composite particles there exist states of relative motion of the composites which are not allowed when one imposes the requirements of the Pauli principle. In this work we show how such redundant states may be identified and how the scattering solutions may be made orthogonal to these states. The strong repulsive forces existing between the composites may be understood in this context. We discuss the role of the redundant solutions in the resonating group method, using the calculation of () scattering as an example, and also comment on the nucleon-nucleon scattering problem.
