Abstract
Decapitation stimulated the production of axillary shoots in Aranda deborah. The nature of these axillary shoots, whether vegetative or reproductive, was shown to be correlated with their positions along the stem axis. The higher ones near the apex developed into inflorescences while the lower ones away from the apex developed into vegetative shoots. These results indicated that a flowering gradient exists along the stem axis in this orchid hybrid.
