Moment-free symmetry breaking in the kagome antiferromagnet with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions
Abstract
We argue that a small anisotropy of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya symmetry on the kagome lattice of quantum S=1/2 favors a broken-symmetry state with no on-site magnetic moment. We find signatures of broken symmetry from exact spectra and finite-size scaling and zero Neel order-parameters by extrapolation to the thermodynamic limit. We discuss the experimental results related to the kagome compound ZnCu$_3$(OH)$_6$Cl$_3$.Keywords
