Abstract
This critical review of the literature on mid-career faculty attempts to better understand the forces, both positive and negative, that influence mid-life faculty careers, and explore the implications of this research for institutional responses to these faculty. The author categorized literature reviewed by the perspectives of the institution and that of the individual faculty member. The essay concludes with implications for research and institutional policies and practice. Keywords
