CADMIUM AND CANCER: THE CURRENT POSITION. REPORT OF AN INTERNATIONAL MEETING IN LONDON, SEPTEMBER 1988

Abstract
At a recent international meeting to review the current position of epidemiological research into the association between cadmium and human cancer, it was agreed that for prostatic cancer recent studies have shown no evidence of an increased risk, and that the relationship, if any, between cadmium exposure and lung cancer remains poorly defined. To co-ordinate future epidemiological research efforts, it was agreed that: —exposure assessments for current studies should be revised and improved; —a case-control study nested within the existing cohorts from the United Kingdom, Sweden and the United States be initiated; —standard tables be prepared and used to assist in evaluating pooled data from the various cohort studies; —a further meeting in 1990 should be held to produce a definitive statement on the carcinogenic potential of cadmium.
