Abstract
The phase constitution of Fe-Nd-B alloys of various compositions has been studied by Mossbauer spectroscopy. The spectrum of the tetragonal magnetically ordered phase Fe14Nd2B has been identified and the hyperfine parameters of its components corresponding to different iron sites have been determined. Heat-treated melt-spun alloys and sintered alloys of composition Fe76Nd16B8 were found to contain predominantly Fe14Nd2B and (in the former case) a small amount of alpha -Fe. A boron-rich alloy of composition Fe4NdB4 was found to contain a paramagnetic phase, a magnetically ordered phase and alpha -Fe. The paramagnetic component is similar to that observed in heat-treated and sintered alloys. Keywords
