Race differences in hemoglobin levels

Abstract
As shown in more than 26,000 individuals, American Whites exceed American Negroes (Blacks) in hemoglobin levels by an average of nearly 1g/100ml and at all ages from the first year through the 9th decade. The Negro‐White differences in hemoglobin is slightly less in the lowest income subjects and slightly more in the highest income subjects, indicating that the difference in hemoglobin levels is not primarily of economic origin.
