Abstract
This article presents an operators' view of the evolution towards broadband optical access networks. First, we describe a possible evolution of the optical access solution for point-to-point and point-to-multipoint architectures. Subsequently, currently available optical access solutions are evaluated and compared. Finally, we consider regulatory issues inside and outside Europe, and conclude by offering a recommendation with respect to regulationKeywords
