Abstract
The stationary states, and corresponding energies, are found for electrons in a thin crystalline layer of a material like Bi under quantum size effect conditions. The tilt of the energy ellipsoids relative to the layer is allowed for. The result indicates that intraband transitions give a line spectrum for the absorption of electromagnetic radiation. The experimental determination of this spectrum is believed to be feasible. Keywords
