Abstract
Invasive aspergillosis is a recognized cause of death in immunosuppressed patients. Immunosuppressive cortisone treatment renders mice susceptible to total invasive infection by aspergilli. Inhaled A. fumigatus conidia germinated slowly in the lungs of mice, and along with ungerminated conidia were cleared. In cortisone-treated mice conidia germinated at a much higher rate.
