Artificial Immunity to Fasciola Hepatica in Rabbits I. Some Studies with Protein Antigens of F. hepatica

Abstract
Serums from rabbits infected with F. hepatica contained precipitins which reacted with a protein fraction prepared from the adult parasite. Immunization of rabbits with alum-precipitated proteins of F. hepatica stimulated the production of these precipitins in relatively large amts. as measured by quantitative precipitin tests. Some preliminary work on the use of isotopically labelled antibody is descr. and its advantages in this type of investigation discussed. Immunization of rabbits with proteins of F. hepatica prior to infection was shown to produce inhibition of development of the parasites as measured by size and total N content, but did not reduce their numbers significantly.
