Abstract
The physical management of challenging behaviours is a contentious area. This article reviews the issues surrounding the use of these procedures in health-care settings. The safety, effectiveness, and social acceptability of physical restraint methods are discussed, as well as the utility of guidelines and the implications for training in the area.Keywords
