Abstract
The minimum structural requirements for steroids displaying androgenic activity have not been clearly defined. The present studies show that the basic hydrocarbon of the androgens, 5[alpha]-androstane, displays androgenic activity. The material produces significant increase in the weight of the chick comb when applied locally or parenterally, thus demonstrating the oxygen functions are not necessary for androgenic activity. Keywords
