The Problem of Palaeokarst in Tibet

Abstract
This paper discusses the occurrence of karst in certain areas of north and south Tibet. Many Chinese geomorphologists consider that the karst landforms in Tibet are a relict palaeokarst, formed in a humid tropical climate when the area was at a considerably lower altitude. This first study of the landforms, of the cave speleothems and of the cave sediments suggests that they are the result of formation under the present conditions of a high-mountain and semi-arid and periglacial climate. So far little evidence has been found of karst or of karst sediments formed under humid tropical conditions.
