Abstract
The intracellular activities of clarithromycin and erythromycin, alone and in combination with other antimicrobial agents, were tested against Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) strains inside mouse J774 cells and inside alveolar macrophages obtained from human immunodeficiency type 1-infected individuals. Clarithromycin alone had greater intracellular activity than erythromycin alone, and drug combinations that included clarithromycin were usually more active than combinations that included erythromycin. Keywords
