Abstract
A description and analysis is given of a session admission control scheme as it is applied to a multinode network that also uses a message window flow control scheme. This scheme limits the total number of sessions that can be admitted on any virtual circuit of the network. Admitted sessions generate messages which are transmitted across the virtual circuit. The system is modeled, and results for session setup time, message waiting time, and throughput are calculated. These results are used to illustrate the usefulness of session admission control and to guide the system designer in selecting the session thresholds required to achieve a specified maximum message waiting time and/or minimum throughput level. Keywords
