Abstract
Presents a microscopic theory to calculate the incoherent scattering functions Ss(qw) in simple classical liquids. The halfwidth at half maximum omega12/(q), of this function is calculated for liquid argon and rubidium, and the results are compared with corresponding MD results. The observed oscillatory behaviour in Delta (q)= omega12/(q)/Dq2, with D with diffusion constant, is explained in terms of the physical processes in the medium surrounding the self-particle.Keywords
